How we engaged with Video + PC + Mobile Games in India over the years.
Once we started. We couldn't stop.
This is a map of our different journeys with Video, PC and Mobile Games in India over the years and that of the different communities we all were and still are a part of. It’s of course not linear because everyone’s path is different and their discovery of games and the gaming ecosystem happened at different times in their life. And, one thing is constant and that’s the fact that the experience is the incentive. Different circumstances, instances and game-like paths and side quests led us to where we are today. And several nudges and inflection points were responsible to lead us to where gaming is today in India.
Right from the arrival of cartridges, dedicated stores and markets to GPRS and the N-Gage mobile device by Nokia in the fateful October of 2003. It combined several features of a mobile phone and that of a portable and handheld video game system with its own N-Gage Arena and library of games. If we look at today’s timeline then the Nintendo Switch and the Switch Lite are the equivalent of the N-Gage Arena today. This map and exploration is just the tip of the iceberg and where do I think gaming is going? Have you ever played an open world game like Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? After endless exploration the open world ends and you can’t go further. I firmly believe gaming is going to go beyond that in the days and weeks to come. And the Indian and the Global gaming community will have a huge role to play in taking this quest beyond all worlds.
