Build a platform in the mind before it’s built on a site.
While there are many frameworks, processes and approaches to building a home on the web, here's a simple one to reflect on what all you can do on your website.
In an increasingly connected world, everyone wants to have a home on the web or mobile for their own company, brand, campaign, vertical, team or unit. It needs to showcase their intent, communication, tools, products and the way they give back to the community. While there are many frameworks, processes and approaches to building a home on the web, here's a simple one to reflect on what all you can do on your website. To illustrate this, I’ve used the example of a hypothetical technology website and how you can view it from three categories.
1. Content Design. The heart of the experience.
2. Experience Design. How the heart of the experience functions.
3. Community Design. How the functions at the heart of the experience can serve the larger community, give back and create a digital innovation pipeline for social good.
The most important thing before you begin to design or develop your home on the web is to contemplate on how your work will help others, what discussions will it open up and what kind of significant outcomes can be planned around the site. After all, you want people to keep coming back to it and engaging with your content and experience in a positive way.
