A thinking framework and behaviour model I've always loved and admired.
Meet the Fogg Behaviour Model.
In our regular day over the years, we’ve come across many frameworks, models, some are made by our super talented colleagues wherever we’ve been employed, a few by us and there are many that are always referred to when you chat with your colleagues, friends, classmates or peers over a cup of coffee or a meal and then you’re just in awe of its simplicity and purposefulness.
One such model for me is the Fogg Behaviour Model by Stanford Professor and Dr BJ Fogg. Given the opportunity, I would love to go and study with his team sometime in life at some point. They say genius lies it its simplicity and this model is universal. It applies to behaviour in humans of all ages and all cultures and I’m assuming it’s also across cultural dimensions and demographics.
The model on the website also tells you how it has been a beacon on the horizon for designers, innovators and inventors of different products, services and experiences.
The model utilized three elements and states that all must converge at the exact same moment for a behaviour to occur. These include Motivation, Ability and a Prompt. A behaviour takes place when these three align and come together at the same time and if no behaviour takes place then atleast one of these three elements is missing.
Here’s what it looks like.
